As the "front door" to the largest nature consevation area in Switzerland, with a total of 168.7 sq. kms., an also to glorious rambling terrain, Zernez enjoys an active tourist trade. Zernez is a fast developing summer and winter resort wich has managed to preserve its village atmosphere.

Zernez is the ideal holiday centre for those seeking quietness and fresh air but still wanting to remain active!

Zernez is moreover, in an ideal position for reaching the more important skiing areas of the Upper and Lower Engadine, the Münstertal valley and Livingno. All such areas are available by road within 30 minutes. In winter the visitor also prefers zernez because of its interesting possibilities for cross-contry skiing or for ski-walks.

Zernez, the Gateway to the Swiss National Park offers you a host of amazing opportunities.

For example in summer you can go hill-walking to look at the wildlife, join a mountain tour to the upper regions, or in winter you have the cross-country ski tracks with links to Giarsun or St. Moritz.

Since we are so close to the tourist centres in the Upper and Lower Engadine, a wide variety of other options is available, however you can still have a quiet holiday if you wish.

Since 1998 Zernez has benefited from a new sports centre with many sport and leisure activities: artificial ice rink, curling (5 rinks), ice hockey, skating ring, swimming pool, cross-country skiing classes, sports field, mini-golf, beach volleyball. In addition you can enrol on snowshoe walks and skiing tours.

Some of the sights in and around Zernez are:
The recently restored Wildenberg castle directly alongside the Chasa Veglia. The National Park with its rich variety of wild life and natural habitat, which has been protected from man-made effects since 1909, covering an area of 168.7 square kilometres. 68% of it is within the Municipality of Zernez. The Tourist Board also provides guided walks and wildlife observation trips. The National Park centre in Zernez provides information about the animal and plant life of the National Park, as well as its history. The villages of the Lower Engadine, particularly Guarda, Ardez and Ftan Pitchen are worth a visit where typical Engadine houses such as the Chasa Veglia characterise the village atmosphere.

Other monuments include the Tarasp castle, the Müstair Monastery and throughout the Engadine region there are many cultural and history museums such as the Engadinais Museum and the Segantini Museum in St. Moritz or the Chasa Jaura in Valchava.

The Engadine – a valley like no other. But also a valley where man, nature and animal life come together. Discover the natural beauty, cultural diversity (for instance our Romansh language), the gastronomic delights (try Plain in pigna), leisure activities, and also the valley's history, the daily life of a mountain district, and especially the people who are your personal hosts during four, quite different, seasons of the year.
