The Romansh language is spoken in Zernez. In 15 BC Emperor Augustus Caesar's sons, Drusus and Tiberius, compelled the people of the Engadine were compelled to speak Romanice, the people's Latin. More than 2000 years have passed since then and the language is still spoken today, a fact of which we are very proud! In 1938 Romansh was recognised as the fourth official language of Switzerland, which considerably advanced the efforts made to preserve the language. Despite this however, it is clear that, like other ethnic minorities, even we Romansh people have many problems to overcome in order to preserve our cultural character.
